I hope that other abuse victims gain some hope and courage to come forward and confront their abusers.
Sarasota, Florida (PRWEB) February 15, 2013
Morgan & Morgan is pleased to announce that attorney Adam Brum has obtained a $745,700 verdict in a sexual battery case.*
The jury awarded $8,700 in past medical expenses, $87,000 for future medical expenses, $400,000 in past pain and suffering, and $250,000 for future pain and suffering.
“I think the jury did what they thought was right,” said Mr. Brum. “I would have liked to have seen a higher verdict, but I think it was a fair result and I hope that other abuse victims gain some hope and courage to come forward and confront their abusers.”
According to court documents, the plaintiff was physically and sexually abused by James LaMorte, a swim coach and history teacher at Venice High School, between 1991 and 1994. It was alleged that the teacher, who had worked at the high school since 1978, abused his position of power and took advantage of the young student by punching and sexually abusing him. When the student attempted to tell authorities, LaMorte allegedly intimidated and coerced him into keeping quiet. LaMorte was prosecuted in 2005 for the sexual abuse of several students; this triggered repressed memories in the plaintiff, compelling him to bring his history of abuse to the local authorities, according to the suit. LaMorte was eventually convicted of criminal sexual battery and served time for his actions.
Mr. Brum grew up in Sarasota, Florida and is a proud graduate of the University of Florida. He earned his J.D. from John Marshall School of Law in 1994, and was admitted to the Florida Bar shortly thereafter. Prior to focusing his practice on personal injury, maritime law, and insurance dispute cases, Mr. Brum served as an Assistant State Attorney in Sarasota.
