SMC³ has announced the appointment of Tom Swinson to the position of director of industry and education services.
Swinson, who joined SMC³ on February 1, will report to Danny B. Slaton, executive vice president, business and product development. From the company’s North American headquarters in Peachtree City, Ga., Swinson will direct the planning and development of SMC³ conferences, Academy courses and on-line classroom products.

Swinson has 28 years of managerial experience in transportation marketing, advertising and public relations. Most recently, he was general manager of commercial communications at the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), where for 17 years he directed commercial communications and global marketing for Georgia’s deep-water ports in Savannah and Brunswick, Ga. Since 1986 Swinson has been involved in the organization of the Georgia Foreign Trade Conference (GFTC), the largest maritime event of its kind on the U.S. East Coast. In 1996 Swinson was elevated to GFTC’s senior leadership team, overseeing planning, venue selection, speaker recruitment, program content, social activities, sponsorships and profitability. Prior to joining the GPA in 1995, Swinson served for 10 years as director of media for Longwater & Company, where he was responsible for B2B media relations and account services. Longwater & Company’s customer base included Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Strachan Shipping, United Arab Shipping Company, the Georgia Ports Authority, DJ Powers, Powell-Duffryn Terminals, Colonial Terminals and Maher Terminals (Port of NY/NJ).
