General Patent Corporation (GPC) Loses A Patent Portfolio To Inventor, Dr. Uri Cohen

GPC, the original small inventor patents enforcer in the USA, loses a large patent portfolio to the inventor, Dr. Uri Cohen.

Judge Kirwan of the Superior Court of Santa Clara, California, confirmed and entered a final judgment of the Final Award of a New York Arbitrator, awarding the inventor, Dr. Uri Cohen, his Seed Layers patent portfolio of eleven issued US Patents, three Pending Patent Applications, and one issued Taiwanese Patent, as well as Attorney Fees and Damages.

According to court documents back in 2010, the Seed Layers patent portfolio was assigned by the inventor, Dr. Uri Cohen, to Seed Layer Technology LLC (SLT), a company solely managed and controlled by General Patent Corporation (GPC). Under the contract between the inventor and GPC/SLT, GPC/SLT was required to assert the Seed Layers patents against infringers or enter into substantive licensing negotiations within a set deadline, or else return the the patent portfolio back to the inventor. In 2011, after GPC/SLT failed to perform under the contract, Dr. Cohen demanded his patent portfolio back, but GPC/SLT refused to comply. The inventor then sued GPC/SLT in the Superior Court of Santa Clara, California, Case No. 111CV211994, for the return of his patent portfolio and damages. In response to GPC/SLT motion, Judge Kirwan ordered a Stay of Final Judgment, pursuant to Arbitration in New York. On November 14, 2012, the New York Arbitrator (Case AAA No. 13-117-Y-00488-12) awarded Dr. Cohen his patent portfolio, attorneys’ fees and costs, and breach of contract damages.

Judge Kirwan of the Superior Court of Santa Clara County, California, recently confirmed the Arbitration Final Award in favor of the inventor, including return of his Seed Layers patent portfolio, attorney’s fees and costs, and damages, and last week Judge Kirwan entered a Final Judgment to this effect.
