Emmanuel Renault, chef at the Flocons de Sel in Megève, is the only chef in France and the Alps to be awarded a third star in the latest edition. Two chefs have received a second star: Mickael Arnoult at Auberge des Morainières in Jongieux, near Chambéry, and Jean-André Charial at the Strato in Courchevel. Million in Albertville, Auberge du Bois Prin in Chamonix Mont-Blanc and L’Atelier d’Edmond in Val d’Isère all received their first stars in the new Michelin Guide.
The Michelin Guide is a highly regarded European hotel and restaurant guide, which awards Michelin stars and is reviewed annually. The star rating system, created by Andre and Edoudard Michelin, awards stars to a number of restaurants, hotels and chefs of who possess outstanding quality. Receiving one star represents “very good cuisine in its category”; being awarded two stars indicates “excellent cuisine, worth a detour” and receiving the rare three stars for those offering “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey”. With such interest and anticipation around the release of the yearly guide, the Michelin Guide now awards rising stars; a clear insight that a given restaurant has the potential to qualify for its first star or receive an additional star.
