Algonquin Studios was recently tapped to develop a mobile site for long-standing client, WNYHEALTHeLINK, a non-profit organization established to develop a privacy-protected, community-based system for health care providers and consumers to electronically share important medical and clinical information more efficiently.

Employing responsive web design, the company’s developers made the site's content easier to read and interact with on today's mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.

WNYHEALTHeLINK's mission to create and maintain a secure, reliable infrastructure for the timely and accurate electronic exchange of clinical information among health care providers, insurers, and other medical professionals is driven by patient consent. Their newly responsive site will play a critical role in keeping participating partner/practice information up-to-date for patients considering granting consent to allow their treating access to important clinical information that could be unavailable otherwise.

“The Participating Providers page created an interesting challenge during this project as tabular data does not usually display optimally in smaller screens,” said Algonquin’s Web Development Manager, Mike Spencer. “To get around this barrier, we implemented a solution that linearizes the data by stacking each cell and repeating the column header text in front of the data like a label. This was done completely using the latest CSS techniques, which have quickly gained exceptional support in mobile devices.”

To see this in action, visit the Partners page and resize your browser, making it smaller and narrower.

With internet access from mobile devices steadily chipping away at desktop browsing, mobile web design and development are becoming increasingly important to many Algonquin clients and the company’s web developers have found themselves working on more and more mobile projects.

“At Algonquin Studios, improving the usability and accessibility of our clients’ web sites has always been incredibly important to us,” says Spencer. “We see mobile development as an extension of our efforts to make content easier to access in more environments.”

Because CSS3 makes creating a mobile-friendly version of a client’s current web site a feasible option for cost-conscious organizations, Algonquin expects to see an increase in clients asking for mobile sites in the near future.

Algonquin has also built mobile sites for other clients including the City of Buffalo, Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, Hodgson Russ, and Catholic Health System, as well as the mobile versions of the company’s own marketing sites: and
