People are more likely to claim on pet insurance than on their car, home, or travel insurance, reports a Which? survey.
The consumer publication surveyed members who had submitted insurance claims in the past two years. Four in ten pet insurance owners had made a claim in that period, the highest proportion of all the general insurance categories. Car insurance followed at 20%, then home insurance at 18% and travel insurance at 15%.
Pet illness was the most common reason to make a claim, with 70% of pet insurance claims accounting for this. The most common claim for travel insurance was cancelled travel, accounting for 33% and accidental damage was the most commonly made home insurance claim at 28%.
A spokesperson for Cost.co.uk said:
“Looking after a pet can be costly as animals can be susceptible to illness and injury. This is why it’s important to compare pet insurance quotes and make sure you have a deal that covers a variety of eventualities and vetinary care. This research provides an interesting overview of British insurance habits and how and why we claim.”
