In response to an article published on St. Louis Today, which discusses a new project providing free prom dresses to girls, Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, a leading destination for Long Island prom dresses, issues a response commending the project’s effort.

On February 21, Estelle Schlossberg, owner of Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, responds to an article published by St. Louis Today, detailing a new project providing prom dresses to girls with financial struggles.

According to St. Louis Today, a Visa Inc. survey revealed families spent over $1,700 last year on prom accessories. This includes the dress, hair, makeup, shoes, flowers, limo costs and other prom necessities. The Cinderella Project, run by the Community Council of St. Charles County, was created to minimize the cost of prom by providing gowns for girls with financial difficulties reports St. Louis Today.

Pam Raines, the director of development and community relations for the Community Council, said, "When families are going through difficult financial situations things that get cut are kids' activities, and prom is one of those things that's such a rite of passage. Kids get that feeling of being left out when friends are buying dresses and they can't do that.”

Schlossberg, the owner of the premier destination for Long Island prom dresses, Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, said it’s great to see people coming together to give girls the prom night they deserve. “It’s a great project and girls deserve to go to prom,” she said. “No one should have to miss out on that experience because they can’t afford it. The Cinderella Project is going to make a bunch of girls happy.”

The Community Council, along with a few local St. Louis malls, is collecting used gowns and formal dresses to give girls a choice of attire for prom night, reports St. Louis Today. These dresses will be on display at a boutique, specially built for the project. According to St. Louis Today, 2,000 dresses were collected last week. Last year, the project collected 5,000.

“It makes sense because most girls only wear their prom dress for one night,” Schlossberg said. “All that money is kind of wasted, so it would be good to donate gently used dresses to a good cause. This gives girls the confidence they need by providing them with the opportunity to pick out a quality dress and having an amazing prom night.”

St. Louis Today also revealed that the project hired a seamstress, so girls can pick a dress and have it specifically tailored to their body. The project also provides beauty stylists to do hair and makeup free of charge.
