According to Top Echelon Network President Mark Demaree, companies are finding it difficult to locate the candidates they want to hire.

The results of this poll further illustrate how difficult it is right now to find and successfully recruit top candidates with specialized skills.

While it’s true that there are currently millions of unemployed people in the United States, it also appears to be true that companies are finding it difficult to locate the people they want to hire.

Top Echelon Network is an elite network of highly specialized search firms. The recruiters who are part of Top Echelon work for some of the biggest companies in the country, helping them to fill their most important positions with the best candidates possible.

According to a recent poll conducted by Top Echelon Network, 64% of Network recruiters indicated that the biggest obstacle to their firm making more placements is the scarcity of qualified candidates.

As part of that poll, Top Echelon Network asked the following question: “Which of the following is currently the biggest obstacle to your firm making more placements?”

Over 60% of poll participants (64.0%) chose “unavailability of qualified candidates” as their answer.

In addition, 25.6% of recruiters selected “lack of hot job orders tied to urgency” as their answer.

Another 10.5% were of the opinion that “some other reason” was their firm’s biggest obstacle to making more placements. (The poll did not inquire as to what that “other reason” was.)

According to Top Echelon Network President Mark Demaree, the poll results are an indication of the “skills gap” that exists in the country, especially in specific industries and within certain niches.

“Companies are looking for individuals with specialized skills,” said Demaree. “The unique nature of these skill sets is one of the reasons these companies have enlisted the services of an executive search firm. Simply put, the companies can’t find the candidates they want by themselves, or they don’t believe they can do it quickly enough, well enough, or in a cost-effective manner.

“The results of this poll further illustrate how difficult it is right now to find and successfully recruit top candidates with specialized skills.”

Top Echelon Network was founded in 1988 in Canton, Ohio. Nearly 400 recruiting firms from all major industries are Preferred Member recruiters in Top Echelon Network.
