The modular program we’ve developed makes it possible for participants to customize their learning program not only based on their own level of expertise, but also based on the needs of their organization.

GS1 US, a leading supply-chain standards organization serving multiple industry sectors, announced today that it has restructured and expanded its pre-conference education program for GS1 Connect to meet the needs of supply chain professionals with varying levels and types of experience and expertise with GS1 Standards. GS1 Connect 2013 will be held from June 10 – 13, at the JW Marriott, San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas.

“This type of educational offering greatly enhances opportunities for attendees to have a highly productive conference experience,” said Bill Gratke, Vice President of Planning and Supply Chain at Lamps Plus, who also serves on the Community Advisory Board for the conference. “Those on my staff who attended the 101-level classes in the past now have opportunities for continuing their education moving forward.”

"The expanded pre-conference program provides the perfect opportunity for attendees of all experience levels to maximize the educational benefits of attending GS1 Connect," said Bob Carpenter, President and CEO of GS1 US. "The modular program we’ve developed makes it possible for participants to customize their learning program not only based on their own level of expertise, but also based on the needs of their organization.”

The pre-conference program includes introductory courses, as well as courses for those with more advanced knowledge of GS1 Standards. The 101-level introductory courses will focus on the basics of GS1 Standards, including the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), Global Location Number (GLN) and the fundamentals of barcode technology, just to name a few topics. The 201-level courses will cover advanced information on GTINs, barcode symbologies, structure and placement of barcodes, the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN), Electronic Product Code (EPC)-enabled radio frequency identification (RFID), and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards. In response to industry demand for assistance in implementing EDI, the education program will also include an "EDI Essentials" course.

Also included in the pre-conference education program are the popular "Introduction to the GS1 System of Standards" course and the "Barcode Professional Certification" course. The GS1 Connect 2013 conference program will feature five educational tracks – Grocery, Retail, Foodservice, Healthcare, and GS1 Standards and Solutions – with sessions designed by an advisory group of industry representatives to ensure that conference presentations address the most relevant business process needs of each sector.
