New York, NY (PRWEB) February 20, 2013

Red Shirt Entertainment has announced that the second installment of its Off-Broadway “Holocaust Remembrance Project” will take place on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 7:00pm. The event will observe the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, with a portion of ticket sale proceeds going toward the education of a Rwandan child via Foundation Rwanda. Once again, it will be held at the Three Jewels, located at 61 Fourth Street in New York’s East Village. The first installment of the project, which sold out its January 28 showing, was based on the Jewish Holocaust.

“After such a positive reaction from the audience following our first event, we are eager to continue our quest to interpret and create awareness about genocide through the arts,” said Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, Red Shirt Producing Artistic Director. “We are also ecstatic to be making a small difference in the Rwandan community by sponsoring a child’s education, something that is considered a luxury in less fortunate nations.”

Over 500,000 people were killed during the Rwandan Genocide. Hutu groups conducted these mass murders of Tutsis in just over three months following the Rwandan Civil War. Similar to the format of January’s show, Red Shirt’s event will include music, poems, short plays and testimonies. It will purposely be performed by actors of diverse races and nationalities to emphasize the effect genocide has on all walks of life.

“The Rwandan Genocide is a historical event that people have heard about, yet many are unaware of its details or significance,” said Red Shirt Executive Producer, Frank O’Brien. “Our mission here at Red Shirt is to push creative boundaries. By dedicating our efforts toward blending art with such powerful subject matter, we believe the audience will walk away with something truly memorable.”
