Hanson Duby Lawyers (http://www.HansonDuby.com), a leading personal injury law firm serving the Greater Toronto Area, recently made a statement regarding the snowstorm that, according to CTVNews.ca, dumped 40 centimetres (cm) of snow on Southern Ontario last week, and the need for individuals injured in auto accidents or slip-and-fall incidents to understand their legal options.
Toronto, along with much of Southern Ontario, was recently pummelled by wild weather that dumped up to 40 cm of snow on the region, making road and sidewalk conditions treacherous. Over the course of the February 8 snowstorm, there were over 350 reported vehicle collisions and at least three deaths. “Walking and driving through snow and ice during the winter months is a fact of life for Torontonians and others across Ontario,” says Spyros Bekiaris, a lawyer at Hanson Duby Lawyers. “While most understand the need to adjust to the poor conditions, not everyone takes notice. Those injured in auto accidents and slip and falls should seek legal help in addition to medical treatment.”
Bekiaris became an Associate at Hanson Duby Lawyers in September 2010. He graduated from York University with an Honours BA, receiving his JD from Queen’s University Faculty of Law in 2009. He formerly worked at a boutique insurance defence firm in Toronto, representing insurance companies.
Bekiaris has appeared before the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Division Court. Bekiaris represents clients in a variety of disputes, including motor vehicle accidents, accident benefits, slip and falls, property damage, and assault. Bekiaris is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers’ Association.
“Unfortunately, you cannot control the actions of other drivers or property owners,” adds Bekiaris. “But you can control how you respond if you are the victim of an accident. That’s why it’s important to speak with a law firm that has experience representing slip and fall and motor vehicle cases.”
