We are delighted that the BAC have accredited the Ashburton Cookery School, validating the quality of our courses and enbabling us to open our doors to international students who are keen to learn the culinary arts at our modern, British culinary school.

The award-winning culinary school, Ashburton Cookery School, based in Devon has been accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) for Independent Further and Higher Education as a Short Course Provider following a detailed inspection of the facilities, management and cookery courses.

The award makes Ashburton one of only four private culinary schools in the UK to have been accredited by BAC, and is a vital step to further the expansion of the business into overseas markets.

The Ashburton Cookery School, through its Chefs Academy, trains aspiring chefs from across the UK and Europe, and has recently received many applications from overseas students keen to take their flagship 6 month Professional Culinary Diploma course – one of the highest culinary qualifications available.

Until now Ashburton has been unable to accept these students since the United Kingdom Border Agency requires a college to be accredited by BAC before candidates from outside the EU can apply for a student visa to study in the UK.

“We are delighted that the BAC have accredited the Ashburton Cookery School, validating the quality of our courses and enbabling us to open our doors to international students who are keen to learn the culinary arts at our modern, British culinary school.”, says Dominic O’Nions, Managing Director.

During the examination process, the BAC inspector observed students in teaching sessions, interviewed both staff and students, visited all school premises including accommodation and undertook a review of student welfare, management systems and financial health.

The BAC Inspector was impressed with the ‘staff of experienced, well-qualified and enthusiastic professionals’ working in ‘exceptionally well-equipped’ training kitchens, and that on all courses ‘participants receive a good level of individual attention’.
