“It’s easy to use, unobtrusive, and works well within the fast-paced world of creative."

Accurately tracking project hours has long been a challenge for creative agencies. Homegrown tools like spreadsheets and calendar-based systems are error-prone and yield lackluster data; and because these tools are time-consuming and cumbersome to use, employees are reluctant to adopt them.
With the launch of its newest web application, custom software developer Dolphin Micro Inc. set out to help creative agencies more accurately track their teams’ hours while streamlining administrative processes like invoicing and payroll.
Dolphin Micro’s CEO Eric Scott works closely with the creative team at Condé Nast Studio in New York and explains that the app, called Hours Tracking (http://hourstracking.com), was developed with Condé Nast’s needs in mind.
“When we built Hours Tracking, we wanted to create something that would eliminate spreadsheets, make it faster for employees to log their hours, and give administrators access to the real-time data they need,” Scott explains. The resulting app, which uses one-click timers to capture hours worked in real time, is perfectly suited to creative teams, he says. “It’s easy to use, unobtrusive, and works well within the fast-paced world of creative.”
Condé Nast business manager Lauren Risley says that Hours Tracking has enabled her to answer budget questions as they arise and has reduced her monthly payroll reconciliation time from seven days to fewer than eight hours.
The app has caught on within the web development community as well, particularly among teams that work remotely. In addition to focusing on simplicity, Dolphin Micro hopes to edge out big-name competitors by making Hours Tracking affordable even for very small teams. The app is currently available for just $1 per user, per month.
“We’re watching our user base expand rapidly,” says Dolphin Micro’s marketing manager Kelly Drill. “In addition to creative teams, we’re seeing interest from development and consulting teams, law firms, and even freelancers. The growth has been very exciting.”
Hours Tracking offers a free 30-day trial. More information is available at http://hourstracking.com.
