Family Estate Sale Solutions (FESS) launched their website familyestatesale.com last month. The site was conceived and designed to help elevate some of the stress of estate liquidation. One of their services was specifically designed to limit hard feelings between family members, which can occur during estate liquidation.

Family and Friends Private Auction

When families and friends are scattered around the country, they often are unable to preview the estate and decide what they would like to keep prior to a public liquidation. This is where the Family and Friends private auction can help. In a password protected online auction, the estate executor can post photos of individual items and then send out notice to family and select friends to view and participate in the private online auction. Family and select friends can then bid on the individual items they want to purchase. During the bidding process no one will know who is bidding on the items. At the end of the auction, proceeds can be distributed equally among heirs or be used to pay final expenses.

FESS offers customization of the Family and Friends feature to meet the needs of the individual estate holder. For example, if a family wants to hold an auction, but doesn’t want to require the participants to pay for the items; each participant can be assigned a dollar value that they can spend based on their share of the estate. When listing the items, the minimum bids for each item should be set to the value they would bring at an estate sale. The participants then bid on items not exceeding the dollar value they were assigned, but they are not required to pay for the items at the end of the sale.

Chris Gross, Managing Member said, “Families who want to customize their private auction should contact FESS and we will work with them to setup an auction that will fit their needs. The private auction can also be used as a fundraiser for organizations and charities or by anyone who to have a by invitation only auction.”

FESS charges a reasonable set auction fee, plus a small percentage of the value of the items purchased. The estate holders can hire an estate liquidator to handle the online auction, which would further simplify the process for families. They can choose a liquidator from the searchable list of national and local liquidation professionals available on the site. The estate holder will need to negotiate the price for this service directly with the estate liquidator.

Traditional Online Auction

FESS also offers the type of online auction available at other sites. Some estate holders use this option after family and friends have made their claims or purchases; others choose this option for the entire liquidation process. In this case, anyone can view estate items and bid on them. Online auctions attract collectors and antique lovers, as well as people who love finding unique items but don't feel comfortable at estate sales.

In addition to their online auctions, FESS offers a searchable list of national and local liquidation professionals, and lists announcements of local estate sales throughout the US. FESS provides services that can assists in every type of estate liquidation.
