ideally suited to address applications that require persistent location
Barcelona, Spain (PRWEB) February 25, 2013
Rx Networks Inc., a leading mobile location technology company, today announced XYBRID Synchro™, a client-based solution that enables a device to instantaneously self-locate even without a currently active data network connection.
Most Wi-Fi and Cell-ID positioning services, including native location support in mainstream smartphone operating systems and Rx Networks’ own XYBRID RT™, rely on real-time remote database lookups to estimate a position based on a device’s Wi-Fi access points and cellular Cell-IDs observations. However, access to these services is not always possible, especially when a device is roaming or otherwise does not have data network access.
XYBRID Synchro solves these problems by downloading sufficient information to the device ahead of time, eliminating the need for an active network connection at the time a location lookup takes place. This means a device can make lookups in any environment and without incurring data charges or placing additional demands on the device’s battery.
“XYBRID Synchro is ideally suited to address devices and applications that require persistent location,” commented John Carley, XYBRID Product Manager with Rx Networks. “Applications, and in particular social networking applications, strive to geo-tag any and all user content, which can require a hundred or more location lookups per day. This usage behaviour puts significant demands on the device’s battery, the user’s data plan and even the mobile OS vendor’s own network servers and infrastructure.”
XYBRID Synchro can be configured to fit within any memory requirement, depending on the accuracy level and power saving needs. Considered an enhancement to XYBRID RT, XYBRID Synchro also falls back to XYBRID RT if a location cannot be determined from the onboard data or if the user travels to a new region and requires updated database information.
XYBRID Synchro will be available in Q2/2013 for evaluation and is being demonstrated at Rx Networks’ booth (7G09) at Mobile World Congress. Commercial availability is expected by the beginning of Q4/2013.
