We’re very proud of our legacy in the region as a reliable provider of the very best expertise available in our industry.

Syracuse, NY-based mechanical contracting firm TAG Mechanical Systems Inc. is pleased to announce the celebration of its 25 years in business. Serving construction professionals, architects, building owners, and homeowners throughout Central New York, TAG is a leader in the commercial and residential contracting industry.

Founded in 1988 by president and CEO Stephen Tallman and business partner George Galek, TAG has grown from a small business to a multi-million-dollar organization with more than 80 employees and more than 15,000 clients. TAG brought on new partner Ellis Guiles Jr. in 2009 to serve as vice president following Galek’s retirement. Guiles began with the company in 2004 as director of sales and marketing.

“We’re very proud of our legacy in the region as a reliable provider of the very best expertise available in our industry,” said Guiles. “And we’re gratified to have a great team in place to offer our sophisticated platform of services, which has expanded beyond heating and cooling products and services to a full array of services designed to make homes and buildings healthier, safer, and more energy efficient,” Guiles said.

Taking a holistic approach to building systems

TAG Home Performance, a division created in 2010, provides a full array of LEED and building science services, applying a holistic approach to building systems. The company not only provides HVAC systems and renewable energy technologies, but also effectively integrates building envelope components including energy-efficient windows and insulation.

25th Anniversary celebration will include consumer education campaign

The firm will celebrate its 25-year milestone with specials throughout 2013 for its customers, beginning with a 2013 Comfort and Efficiency Special.

In addition, TAG has launched a communications campaign to help educate energy consumers about opportunities they may be missing – opportunities that are a result of the leadership role New York State plays in creating an environment in which homeowners can reduce their energy use and costs while improving the health and comfort of their homes. Through programs offered by the state such as On-Bill Recovery, mechanical firms like TAG can assist homeowners and small business owners in making significant energy efficiency improvements for which the cost becomes neutralized on customers’ utility bills (in other words, the cost of improvements is carried forward on the utility bill and cancelled out by the savings resulting from reduced energy use).

Part of green building history

Back in 2006, Tallman managed the installation of the mechanical system for the first LEED-certified building in the Syracuse area (the Enable building at 1603 Court Street). Since then the company has continued to evolve as a leader within the green building industry, earning a significant reputation regionally and nationally for its leadership role in the green / building performance arena. Tallman currently is chairman and president elect of the Associated Builders and Contractors Empire State Chapter.

Guiles has served on numerous national-level industry committees responsible for developing quality standards in the building performance market. He currently serves as the first chairman of Air Conditioning Contractors of America’s new Building Performance Council. He is past president of the Central New York chapter of ASHRAE.
