David Gress, Kiski School senior, Wins Regional Poetry Out Loud Contest.

David (DJ) Gress ’13, recently won the Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition on February 18, 2013, that was held at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Poetry Out Loud is a contest endorsed by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. It encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. Students participate in competitions at their respective schools before moving on to regional and/or state competitions, and ultimately to the National Finals.

David’s task was to memorize and recite three poems that he was judged on for accuracy and performance. Among strong competition, David won the event and will be moving on to the state competition. He will be competing against 12 other regional champions on Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Governor’s mansion in Harrisburg. There is a scheduled plaque presentation arranged by the head of Poetry Out Loud, and we will post that information when it becomes available.

The Kiski School, a premier boarding school, located 30-miles east of Pittsburgh, is celebrating 125 years of preparing young men from grades 9-12 and post graduates to succeed in college and in life.
