Being able to partner with gifted artists throughout the Chesapeake Bay region is just one more way we are able to celebrate everything we all love about the Bay.

Be the Bay is pleased to announce its online store now features Annapolis, Md.-based artist Cindy Cole and her complex collages and stylized photography.

Be the Bay, a casual apparel company featuring original Chesapeake Bay-themed art by its marine biologist founders, launched in 2007 as a way to celebrate everything people love about the Chesapeake. A portion of sales are donated each year to Chesapeake Bay restoration projects.

“Being able to partner with gifted artists throughout the Chesapeake Bay region is just one more way we are able to celebrate everything we all love about the Bay,” said Be the Bay President and Founder, Paula Jasinski. “Artists capture the essence of the Bay in such different ways. It’s an honor to work with them and feature their various styles and mediums.”

Cole studied fine art and graphic design at Rochester Institute of Technology and has since studied glass, clay, film and other mediums at various art societies.

For many years, Cole worked as a graphic designer, as well as made jewelry and explored with various collages and painting techniques. Cole now resides in Maryland and has developed unusual collage techniques using a wide variety of materials such as film, metal, wood, paint, resin, wax, paper, paint chips and photographs.

Cole’s pieces created from her photography can be as complex as incorporating up to 30 photographs in one collage or as simple as stylizing one photo into flattened stylized image.

Cole is driven to explore with and develop techniques that create texture and depth.

Be the Bay expanded its online store to offer Chesapeake Bay-themed artwork in November 2012. The Mathews, Va.-based P. Buckley Moss was the first artist to feature her work in Be the Bay’s online store.
