A Pasadena Waldorf Student Prepares Gets a Produce Box

Waxed boxes containing seven to ten types of vegetables or fruits arrive every Thursday.

On Thursdays, the parking lot at Pasadena Waldorf School's lower campus exhibits an extra bit of bustling around 2:30 in the afternoon. This is the time when families begin picking up boxes provided by eRoots, filled with fresh, locally grown, organic produce. An ongoing school fundraiser, the partnership with eRoots also brings a convenient variety of seasonal vegetables and fruits to participating families. The program is open to anyone in the surrounding community who wishes to benefit from the weekly or bi-weekly delivery.
Waxed boxes containing approximately seven to ten different types of vegetables or fruits arrive every Thursday during the school session and are set out by parent volunteers with the school's Green Team. These boxes are available for pickup between 1:30 and 5:30 PM, and must be pre-ordered by 10:00 AM the previous Monday. The content of the boxes varies from week to week and eRoots sends an email reminder to all recipients along with a newsletter detailing what the boxes will contain along with tasty recipe suggestions.
eRoots was created by the California nonprofit, Women Organizing Resources Knowledge & Services (WORKS), whose profits support education, food access, and job creation programs. Proceeds also support Pasadena Waldorf School's own sustainability projects. Orders for the PWS Produce Collective can be made online and can be set up for recurring orders throughout the school year.
