On February 27, Lorna Kleidman, three-time kettlebells champion and creator of the popular KettleX program, is challenging kettlebell users to use the SenseCam as a means to track the progress of their kettlebells routine and improve their performance.

According to Gizmag, the SenseCam – which is worn around the neck with a lanyard – can shoot and store about three images a minute. The SenseCam can run for about 12 hours on a single battery charge. “Users can view the photos later, as a means of reliving their day. Although it may sound a bit narcissistic, the camera is actually designed as a therapeutic device, to help people who have memory problems.”

Gizmag reports that a study conducted by the British Heart Foundation Health Promotion Research Group had 40 volunteers wear the cameras for three to five days as the test subjects performed their normal, everyday activities. The test subjects “also all wore an accelerometer, as would be found in activity-monitoring devices” to record movement.

In another study by Ireland’s Dublin City University, “a group of 47 football players, jockeys and physically-active college students wore the cameras while keeping track of their dietary intake through self-reporting for one day.” According to Gizmag the photos revealed that the subjects “misreported things like portion size, types of food not eaten, brand names, and – importantly – they underestimated the number of calories consumed.”

“When it comes to losing weight, it takes a certain level of self-discipline to stay on track and to monitor your progress,” comments Lorna Kleidman, fitness expert and kettlebell trainer. “Most of us don't have the luxury of a personal trainer to watch our every move or jot down our dietary intake during the course of a week. This responsibility falls on the individual and most of us can sometimes be a little lax on accuracy.”

Kleidman challenges her followers and all those looking to lose weight to utilize technology like the SenseCam to help achieve their goals. “Using a tool like the SenseCam can help those practicing with kettlebells improve their form and enhance their posture to better utilize the weight properly. The ability to recognize errors and inefficiencies in your workout routine can help you realize your fitness goals sooner and avoid injury.”

Lorna Kleidman is a three-time World Champion and World Record holder in kettlebell sport and the most decorated kettlebell athlete in the country. She developed the innovative methods used in KettleX as a way to bring the benefits of the bells to everyone in an easy-to-use, comprehensive and fun format. Lorna has been teaching individuals and group classes for the past six years.
