We organize this event hoping that the information the girls receive there will provide a foundation to build confidence and help them identify and define the image that they want to project. — Theresa O’Connell

The South Florida Diversity Council is proud to announce that it will be hosting a series of Young Women’s Leadership Symposiums for female high school students, beginning in February. The Council will host three events in three different geographic locations, beginning in South Florida on February 23rd at the Wayne Huizenga School of Business on the campus of Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fl. The event moves to the Tampa Bay area on March 2nd, at the Columbia Restaurant and finally to Orlando on May 4th (location TBD).
The Young Women’s Leadership Symposium is designed to promote the development of future business leaders by giving female high-school students access to mentors and businesses that support their goals and encourage them to reach their full potential. Each of the three symposiums focuses on leadership, college and career planning, diversity and advocacy for girls.
Theresa O’Connell, Chairman of the South Florida event and an associate of event sponsor Bluegreen Vacations says the symposium is a great opportunity for the girls to observe, learn and hear different perspectives from women professions. O’Connell says last year’s event had such an impact on her that she decided to take the reins as the leader of this year’s event, because the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
“We organize this event hoping that the information the girls receive there will provide a foundation to build confidence and help them identify and define the image that they want to project," O’Connell said. “It is a way to informally mentor and give back to these girls who may not have another avenue to receive this kind of training and assistance, and it’s extremely rewarding to be able to be a part of this.”
