Many companies find themselves with overstocked items. One company has thought of a to put their overstocked items to good use. Tarps Plus, the Palmdale, California based tarp distributor found themselves within overstock supply of untreated white canvas tarps, as well as some tarp tents. Tarps Plus CEO Michael Stein decided to put these items to good use. The company is collaborating with schools, donating a 30 x 30’ white canvas tarp and a 10’ x 10’ wide pop-up tent. The concept is: Tarps Plus shows up to the school with paint and paint supplies, the tarp and the tent. Children then get to paint the tarp and tent with the teachers. The tarp and tent are donated to the school.
Tarps Plus CEO and founder Michael Stein says, "We were trying to think of a unique way to use our overstocked tarps and tents. What better way than donating them to schools and getting the children involved with painting them?”
The tarps plus truck arrives to the schools, lays out the 30 x 30’ white canvas tarp. The 10 x 10 white pop-up tent is set on top of the tarp. Employees of Tarps Plus lay out paint and supplies for the kids to paint the tent and tarp. Children dip their hands in paint and imprint their hands onto the top of the tent along with the teachers; symbolizing the unity of the students and teachers. The canvas tarp that lies in the ground is used as a free-form of art where the children can paint whatever they want.
Schools use the tarps and tents for fundraisers, assemblies and other various outdoor functions.
Tarps Plus plans to do the program throughout the Southern California area, and eventually the entire state of California. The first tarps for kids program is scheduled for March 28th 2013.
