DPR Construction (DPR) is proud to announce The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito as the deserving recipients of a $40,000 grant to the La Colonia Branch via the DPR Foundation. The funding will provide over 100 youth and teens access to after school programs at no cost to members of The Boys & Girls Club. Youth receive tutoring in math, english, science, mentoring in overall life skills and lessons, and access to summer camp programs.
“DPR’s commitment to ‘Build Great Things’ extends far beyond our offices or customers – we strive to go into the communities where we work and live,” said Peter Nosler, co-founder of DPR Construction and president of the DPR Foundation board. “Through the Foundation, we focus on building long-lasting relationships with local organizations that help kids gain an enriched community experience. Once we select an organization, our commitment is solid and we expect to continue our financial and volunteer support year after year.”
In addition to DPR’s financial contribution, the deck and ramp in front of the new clubhouse at La Colonia were furnished and installed by an all DPR volunteer group working on weekends and after work. About $3,600 in material and 80 hours of volunteer time were donated to this project. The volunteer efforts for the new clubhouse at La Colonia were spear headed by DPR’s Kelsey Powell, a former La Colonia volunteer and mentoring tutor.
In 2006, the Club worked with the City of Solana Beach to open the La Colonia Branch where they now serve over 110 under-privileged and low-income Hispanic children, ranging in age from 5 to 17, each day. All of these youth are 100 percent scholarship funded and do not pay for the services and activities provided for them. With the commitment of dedicated staff and support of community members, sustainable Elementary After-School and Teen Mentoring Programs have been developed to help suppress the ongoing, and recently escalating, drug and gang violence in the city’s Eden Gardens neighborhood.
DPR Foundation grant winners are selected annually by the DPR Foundation board and local DPR employees. In addition to financial assistance, DPR volunteers make the annual commitment to donate their time to their local organizations. The DPR Foundation measures the success and progress of these programs on an annual basis to ensure each grantee stays on mission and is achieving results.
The DPR Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged children reach their full potential through regional organization support, has announced the expansion of its 2012/2013 grant awards program to 15 organizations, with three new grantees joining the 12 returning from last year. The Foundation distributed $750,000 in grants to support these organization’s efforts in local youth development programs with an additional $95,000 in discretionary funds that will be disbursed regionally for the coming year.
The DPR Foundation was established in 2008 by DPR Construction, one of the nation’s top technical builders focused on highly complex and sustainable projects. Over the past five years, the Foundation has awarded more than $2.4 million to 21 different organizations focused on providing community support to grade school and high school-aged children. The impact of this support has been realized through a variety of programs, from after school support organizations to summer camps to caring for homeless children.
