Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) February 25, 2013
A five million dollar settlement obtained for a client by the Cooper Hurley Law Firm was the third largest auto accident settlement in Virginia last year, as reported in Virginia Lawyers Weekly. All cases are different and we cannot guarantee the same result in your case.
During the summer of 2012, attorneys John Cooper and Jim Hurley of Norfolk successfully mediated the $5 million settlement for a woman who was hit in her car by a pick-up truck driver in Gloucester County, VA.
Our client was struck head-on by the construction truck on a narrow, unmarked road. The impact of the crash was so severe that the car's engine was thrown onto the woman’s lap, Virginia Lawyers Weekly reported in an article on August 13, 2012, entitled "Crash survivor left with 58 percent whole-person impairment."
Just 15 months after the accident, the 41-year-old woman from Hampton, Virginia, was awarded $5 million in a mediation settlement of the case pending in the Newport News Circuit Court. The woman’s many serious injuries included broken ribs, a lacerated liver and spleen, a hip fracture, a fractured pelvis, a fractured femur and fibula and post traumatic stress disorder with a mild traumatic brain injury.
Virginia Lawyers Weekly, in its Feb. 11, 2013 edition, included the result in its final list of Million Dollar Settlements of 2012. The $5 million agreement was the 8th largest reported settlement in Virginia in 2012 of any type of lawsuit and ranked third among car and truck injury cases.
The settlement is just the latest in a series of high awards achieved for clients by attorneys of the Cooper Hurley Law Firm. In a 2010 case, John Cooper achieved a $3.5 million settlement agreement in a wrongful death case for the daughter of a passenger from Portsmouth pinned in a car which was struck by dump truck on I-64 in Norfolk. That result was the biggest reported auto settlement of 2010 in Virginia.
