Santa Rosa, California (PRWEB) February 26, 2013
Each year something very special happens in Northern California Wine Country. Private smaller niche wineries, along with larger more established locations, open their doors, and more importantly their barrels, to the public. This is an opportunity to get up-close and personal with the winemakers, growers and industry insiders for a peek into their private world. This is one of the largest wine tasting events in Sonoma County and hundreds of wineries will participate. The Santa Rosa convention & visitors bureau is honored to be host and home to some of the most sought after locations on the tasting map. The Barrel Tasting event spans two weekends, March 1-3 & March 8-10, 2013, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm each day. For details and to purchase tickets visit: http://www.tastesantarosa.com/events/2013/03/01/foodie-wine-events/wine-road-34th-annual-barrel-tasting/, http://www.wineroad.com or call (707)433-4335.
Many of the participating wineries offer what they call "futures" on their barrel samples. This is a rare and exclusive occasion to purchase wine now, often at a discount then come back to the winery when the wine is bottled, typically 12-18 months from now. Also several of the smaller wineries make very limited productions showcased and sold at this event before they hit the public.
Guests will explore the tastes and sights from the popular Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valley areas. Aside from breathtaking scenery, internationally acclaimed vintners and well-known chefs like Mark Stark, John Ash and Guy Fieri, Santa Rosa is home to many of the exceptional wineries in the event including downtown walking destinations like; Ancient Oaks Cellars, Cellars of Sonoma and D'Argenzio Winery at Santa Rosa Vintner's Square. Also wide-open locations set among lush vineyards such as; Chateau St. Jean, Korbel Champagne, Kendall Jackson, DeLoach Vineyards and Paradise Ridge to name only a few. Check the website above for all participating wineries, tickets include the entire weekend, allowing visitors to take their time and move from location to location, and the opportunity to sample wine from the barrel and in most cases to try a limited number of current release wines.
Santa Rosa is located in the heart of the world renowned Sonoma County wine country just about one hour outside of San Francisco. Travelers from around the globe journey here to experience some of the finest wine, food and beauty the area has to offer.
