Colella hopes his readers will take up a “societal, moral, ethical and spiritual mandate to address the human cost of so many caught in the cycle of life in the inner city through no fault of their own.”

In his new book “Let's Start with the Children: Journey to St. Ann's” (published by WestBow Press) author Al Colella takes a look at the cost citizens pay, living in inner-city America, in places like the South Bronx.

Inside, he encourages readers to make the journey from the slave trade of the 18th and 19th centuries to the plight of African Americans in inner-city America. Colella urges them to learn about the ravages and disadvantages of residence there and its lifelong impact upon an entire population, and to recognize that this continuing situation has a sad and shameful historical path shaped by society’s blindness to humanity.

An excerpt from “Let's Start with the Children”:

“This book will end just as it began, i.e., a reminder that the ‘story’ of the book is really a litany of ‘stories’ of human kindness and goodness, individual and collective spiritual journeys, the belief that life itself is a unique gift, a sharing of a myriad gifts of this life with those in need, a collateral passion, thanksgiving, a perseverance of character that inevitably overcomes unsought and undeserved disadvantages, faith in a greater power (aka Amazing Grace)”

Colella hopes his readers will take up a “societal, moral, ethical and spiritual mandate to address the human cost of so many caught in the cycle of life in the inner city through no fault of their own.”
