Rush is a Canadian rock band that has been around since 1968. The band is composed of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart. The former members were Jeff Jones, who had been the bassist and lead vocalist from August to September 1968; and John Rutsey who had been the drummer, percussionist and back up vocalist from August 1968 to July 1974. He died in 2008.
Rush is known for complex compositions as well as eclectic lyrics derived from science fiction, philosophy and fantasy. In 1974, Rush released their self-titled debut album with their music being heavy metal inspired by blues. Rush members are known to be highly-skilled players on the musical instruments that they have. The group has won 24 gold records and 14 platinum records. Due to the sales of their albums, they have ranked third as the band with the most number of consecutive gold or platinum studio albums. The top two posts are occupied by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, respectively. Rush has also placed number 79 in the United States for album sales after selling 25 million copies. In 2004, it was roughly estimated that they have sold over 40 million records.
Although their musical style has changed substantially over the years, their appeal and their charisma have remained at a high level. From hard rock to heavy metal, New Wave, Reggae and Pop Rock. The talented musicians showed the world how music sounds with their own style. The band had a five year hiatus from 1997 to 2002 primarily because of personal tragedy in Peart’s life. Peart’s daughter died in an automobile accident in 1997, and his wife died in 1998 due to cancer. After the hiatus, the band was able to mount a comeback with the help of Paul Northfield and released their single Obe Little Victory.
Rush has released 20 albums over the years. Some of the latest hits of the band are "Summertime Blues," "Secret Touch," "Shape of Things," "Vapor Trail," "The Main Monkey Business," "The Way the Wind Blows," "Good News First," "Clockwork Angels," "Carnies," "Halo Effect," "The Wreckers," " Headlong Flight" and "Wish Them Well."
