Private Investigators give information on asset tracing services in light of BBC News article dated 22nd Feb 2013 by Angela Harrison: Divorcing couples often hide assets, survey suggests

We at Private Investigators are able to investigate failure to disclose cases and provide proof and the truth behind a spouse’s wealth

According to the article by Angela Harrison many people going through a divorce could be hiding their wealth from their spouses. A survey carried out for The Co-operative Legal Services by Onepoll found that just under a quarter of 800 divorced people asked said they had tried to hide some of their finances from their partners.

The report went on to say that concealed wealth includes;

  •     Hoarding of cash coming up to a split
  •     Making up fictitious debts owed to relatives
  •     Going on a spending spree with a joint credit card
  •     Transferring money to new partners or family members
  •     Clearing out joint back accounts

One in seven questioned said their main objective, after deciding to divorce, was revenge. Although failure to disclose is a crime that has been on the rise for years, not a lot has happened about it. People either get away with it or they get caught and they are not penalised. This is changing with help of a different attitude from judges and with help from private detectives information.

Detectives at Private Investigators have been giving information about asset tracing services that can help people who believe their spouse is failing to disclose all of their assets. Often working alongside lawyers the detective can carry out an in depth investigation of information, within the public domain, that can uncover the truth behind a person’s assets.

Spokesperson, Mary Rogers from Private Investigators said:

“In my expert opinion the hiding of assets during a divorce has been on the increase, over the years, as there has not been any major deterrent. It is believed that a change in attitude by judges will toughen up the penalties and stop people getting away with it. We at Private Investigators are able to investigate failure to disclose cases and provide proof and the truth behind a spouse’s wealth”.
