Together we can raise awareness for our local homeless population as well as the global population that is dependent on athletic shoe recycling and reuse.

Back On My Feet (BoMF) Philadelphia is pleased to announce a new partnership with ShoeBox Recycling to promote the reuse of running shoes as they take steps toward empowering and inspiring the homeless locally. This great new opportunity allows for participants to recycle gently used athletic shoes, raising awareness about the global impact of shoe recycling, helping to put reusable, re-wearable shoes on the people who need affordable options and turning their recycling collection into a great, green and meaningful fundraising opportunity. That’s a huge win for all involved!

Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national nonprofit organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives that results in employment and independent living. The organization’s mission is not to create runners within the homeless population, but to use running to create self-sufficiency in the lives of those experiencing homelessness. The program’s success is measured by how many Members achieve independence through employment and housing.

ShoeBox Recycling is proud to be a for-profit recycler of shoes. They have flipped the recycling triangle upside down and have mastered the most powerful ‘R,’ REUSE, with all of the shoes collected destined for reuse by those in need of affordable footwear. With over 300 million pairs of perfectly reusable shoes hitting landfills each year, they are looking to change the way people think about their shoes.

“We’re excited to build a partnership that will not only provide us with a tremendous opportunity to serve our program in a more efficient way, but will also enable both Back on My Feet Philadelphia and Shoebox Recycling to maximize the social value brought to communities beyond the Philadelphia area,” said Cathryn Sandersen of BoMF.

"Together we can raise awareness for our local homeless population as well as athletic shoe recycling and reuse,” said Lisa Pomerantz, Queen of Sole at ShoeBox Recycling. “Runners take good care of their feet and change their shoes often. Our ability to capture this audience and have them join our reuse movement is a natural fit and makes for a advantageous and meaningful scenario all around.”

All of the BoMF participating runners who also recycle shoes can feel good knowing they are doing something good to help themselves and the people who depend on affordable second-hand shoes. Fundraising groups who use ShoeBox Recycling collections to support BoMF will find a great new fundraising opportunity that works hand-in hand, or foot by foot with Back on My Feet.

All of the funds raised for BoMF Philadelphia will be used to support the self-sufficiency of BoMF Philadelphia and the programs, education, housing training and employment efforts. All of the shoes collected for recycling will be reused anywhere affordable shoe options are needed. Feel free to drop off your gently used athletic shoes at the AT&T Five Miler, The Broad Street Run, or directly at the office in the Land Title Building, 100 South Broad Street, Suite 1400 in Philadelphia.
