Seward Park Tech’s survey results show that for wedding receptions, Top 40 hits and '80’s music are the clear winners, while Lady Gaga suffered a decrease in requests over the past year.

Ever since Pitbull made the switch from hard-core rap to club-music, he has been on everyone’s record, people just can’t get enough Pitbull in New York.

According to recent 2013 survey results, New York wedding DJ company, Seward Park Tech, finds that '80’s music is a favorite for wedding receptions. The playlists of approximately 300 weddings were surveyed covering the years 2011 to 2013.

In hopes of narrowing things down, here are some statistics from Bride’s wedding day playlists.

The most requested artist for the dancing portion of the wedding reception was Pitbull while the most mentioned artists on a bride’s “do not play” playlist were The Village People. “This is not surprising,” says DJ Ant1 from Seward Park Tech, New York and New Jersey's highest rated Wedding DJs. “Ever since Pitbull made the switch from hard-core rap to club-music, he has been on everyone’s record, people just can’t get enough Pitbull in New York." Top 40s topped the list of requests for dance music during the last two hours of the reception.

Lady Gaga suffered the largest drop in requests from in 2012.

Most brides preferred ’80s music at their reception. The leading artists were Michael Jackson and Prince; while selected music from “Awesome ’80s Prom,” and hits from Sugar Hill Gang came in at close seconds. Whitney Houston requests spiked during 2012. “The '80s music just never gets old. Just visit Webster Hall on Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and you will find the room packed with '80s music lovers,” says DJ Cabo, an '80s and country music DJ from Seward Park Tech, referring to the Awesome 80s Prom.

The second most requested genre for wedding receptions was ’90s club R&B and hip-hop. Artists such as Montell Jordan, Biggie Smalls, and Soul for Real were popular choices.

The third most requested music genre was country. “It is very hard to find a good Country Music DJ in New York. You have to love Country Music in order to be able to mix it, you can’t just paste songs together.” says DJ Cabo.

The most requested Latin genre for brides was ’80s Salsa, followed by Bachata from the ’90s, and current Reggaeton. Current top Bachata choice requests went to Prince Royce and Aventura.

When it came to cocktail hours, the most requested genre of music was hotel lounge music, followed by jazz and soft rock.

The most requested line-dance songs were 'Electric Boogie (The Electric Slide),' followed by 'Cupid Shuffle.' The most mentioned artist on a bride’s 'do not play' playlist was 'The Chicken Dance.'
