The economy and changes in the real estate market over the last few years have changed the way homebuyers think about and search for homes
Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) February 25, 2013
More than 12.5 million unique visitors searched Homes.com, a leading online real estate destination, for homes for sale and rent in January. A recent Homes.com consumer survey receiving more than 1,300 responses showed a continued positive trend in housing market growth and renters’ renewed faith in the home purchase process. Of the respondents, more than 61 percent were renters seeking to buy their first house, while 38 percent were in a home they were trying to sell.
Nearly 34 percent indicated the reason they are searching for a home is to upgrade from a smaller living space, followed by living closer to friends and family with 16 percent of votes. Only about 30 percent of survey takers were interested in moving more than 50 miles away from their current location, while nearly 35 percent are opting for homes within five to ten miles of their current home. Spouses still remain an important influence in the homebuying process, as noted by 46 percent of respondents.
“The economy and changes in the real estate market over the last few years have changed the way homebuyers think about and search for homes,” said Brock MacLean, executive vice president of Homes.com. “Knowing their behaviors and search habits helps Homes.com better fulfill their needs and inform our dedicated network of realtors and agents, supplying the tools and technology they need to realize results.”
The three-week long survey proved homebuyers are more digitally connected than ever, opting to communicate with real estate professionals via email and previewing photos before choosing to visit a home in person. National real estate listing sites like Homes.com topped the list for ways potential homebuyers access real estate listings. While 78 percent of respondents use their desktop to search online portals, nearly 20 percent utilize on-the-go devices such as tablets and smartphones to search for homes via downloaded mobile apps.
Following the trend of homes selling fairly quickly, most respondents have been looking for a home less than three months, with more than 24 percent of respondents searching for less than one month. Homebuyers are also making homebuying decisions swiftly, with about 32 percent looking at only five to ten homes before choosing the right one.
More than half of home seekers choose to exchange messages with real estate professionals via email. To find the perfect home, nearly 40 percent of respondents said they search online every day, with more than 23 percent looking at least once per week.
Homes.com makes it easier for homebuyers to locate the perfect home by featuring more than four million homes for sale and rent, each with at least eight photos showcasing the unique aspects of every home. Visitors to the site can also directly connect with a local real estate professional once they are ready to visit homes in person.
