eDreams, one of the largest online travel agencies in Europe, has published the ranking of the "Best Airports in the World 2012," compiled from thousands of customer reviews gathered over the past year. The services valued at airports show that the Asian installations prevail over the European's in terms of customer satisfaction.
Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) has achieved the first position in the ranking, with a difference of only one point with Singapore's Changi Airport (SIN), which has risen from third to second place compared to last year’s list. Chek Lap Kok Airport (HKG) in Hong Kong came in third place in the overall world rankings. Meanwhile, Incheon Airport in Seoul, which last year won the best airport in the world, has dropped to fifth place in 2012's list.
Co-founder and Director of Marketing of eDreams, Mauricio Prieto, stated that "following the success of the first study on the best airports, we could only continue the initiative, which once again has shown that European airports are far behind the trend of modernization, comfort, and services for travelers that the Asian airports offer." Prieto adds that "our commitment to our customers goes beyond the constant improvement of the services that we offer as a travel agency. We care about the opinion of our clients and that is the reason why we promote these types of surveys."
The study of the "Best Airports in the World 2012" was carried out from the participation of eDreams customers, a figure that reaches 14 million travelers worldwide. The travel agency’s user input emphasized the importance of comfort and modernity when it comes to valuing an airport. These two factors were highlighted in reviews of the top-ranking Thai airport, which also won ninth place in the Best Waiting Lounges category.
In Europe, German-based Cologne-Bonn (CGN) International achieved the highest rating in 2012, achieving sixth place Overall, ranking in all categories including fourth for Shopping, and second for Restaurants. Despite this exception, the five Asian airports in the top 10 have eclipsed the European representation, with only 3 airports in the ranking. Apart from Germany, Stockholm's Arlanda (ARN) and Amsterdam's Schiphol (AMS) make the list as well. The ranking is completed with Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) in Belgrade and the U.S. airport Orlando International (MCO).
