Just like with swimming, with online schoolwork you have to set a schedule and put in the time to get results.

Oaks Christian Online School Sophomore, Christina McCoy, swam in three events over four days at the recent San Diego Presidents Day Senior Classic, held at San Diego State University. The invitational was a USA Swimming sanctioned event and drew teams from all over California. Christina swam in the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle races, as well as the 100 meter butterfly race and her team garnered third place in this highly competitive event. The sophomore has swum for clubs since second grade and has been with Class Aquatics club team out of Westlake Village, CA, for the last two years. Christina works with Coach Steve Reardon and specializes in sprinting at their training grounds on the campus of Oaks Christian School. “Our club is like a family,” Christina says.
Christina swims competitively throughout the year and has qualified for Junior Olympics every year since she was nine years-old. She was part of three winning relay teams last summer. She has qualified for and gone to sectional meets many times since she was 12 years-old and enjoys competing with the range of age groups that can swim at those meets. With a combination of ranking and times, her goal for this year is to qualify for the USA Swimming 2013 Speedo Junior National Championships held in Irvine, CA, in August. In the future, Christina plans to swim on a college team, and she’s eager to be a student-athlete who gets to experience college from both an academic and competitive standpoint. She is heavily involved in her Catholic church’s confirmation group, and her plan is to attend a small, private university where people can get to know each other.
Christina started Oaks Christian Online High School this school year to help accommodate her busy training and travel schedule. Even while taking Advanced Placement courses online, she has adjusted quickly to the rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum and pacing. Of her transition to online high school courses she says, “Just like with swimming, with online schoolwork you have to set a schedule and put in the time to get results. It’s working for me.”
