We carefully selected Togo as a new program destination not only because of its beautiful blend of various cultures, but also because of the ongoing need for support in Togolese communities.
Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 26, 2013
United Planet, an international non-profit based in Boston, MA, is excited to announce its newest short-term international program to volunteer in Togo, West Africa. With eight new projects to offer, United Planet seeks volunteers to provide service in childcare, education, disabled citizen care, and community development. With over 40 international destinations, Togo is the first French-speaking country option United Planet offers.
United Planet’s Vice President of Global Operations Theresa Higgs, comments, “We carefully selected Togo as a new program destination not only because of its beautiful blend of various cultures (the country has 40 different ethnic groups amongst a population of about seven million), but also because of the ongoing need for support in Togolese communities.” Higgs continues, “Also, since Togo will be the first French-speaking country option for United Planet, it contributes greatly to the growing diversity of our programs.”
For volunteers interested in working with children, seven out of eight United Planet short-term programs offered in Togo are centered on helping youth. Projects examples include helping to promote reading and research at a community library, helping Togolese children with disabilities, and working with children with hearing deficiencies to successfully integrate them into education and work environments.
In addition to service work, volunteers will enjoy local excursions in and around the city of Kpalimé, where the majority of the projects are located. Hidden within the surrounding jungle and located near traditional coffee and cocoa farms, Kpalimé reveals a beautiful town with a mix of chateaus ruins, exotic butterflies, and native villages for curious volunteers to uncover.
Those who wish to volunteer in Togo with United Planet may begin their program at any time during the year but must commit to at least two weeks of volunteering. A basic knowledge of French is preferred and volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate. For those interested in an extended volunteer experience, United Planet also offers six-month and one-year long-term programs to Togo.
