It is my intention to reach out to other NPs in the area and let them know what we are doing over at Women’s Excellence. We are making a difference in patient lives
Troy, MI (PRWEB) February 26, 2013
Urinary Incontinence (UI) is a common issue affecting women of all ages. There are different types of UI. Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is unwanted urinary leakage with cough, sneeze, or any activity that increases intra-abdominal pressure. Urge incontinence refers to the unwanted leakage of urine that is immediately proceeds the strong urge to void.
Other bladder issues commonly affecting women include Overactive bladder (OAB) and Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome (IC/PBS). Overactive bladder (OAB) is a urinary syndrome characterized by persistent urgency and frequency of urination. Overactive bladder is a common symptom associated with IC/PBS. Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome is also associated with bladder pain.
Dr. Jonathan Zaidan, MD, FACOG opened his free-standing, unique bladder control center exclusively for women in 2009 and has great success in treating female bladder control issues. According to Dr. Zaidan, “I had been referring my patients out to urologists for many years but I was disappointed with the quality of care they were getting. They just didn’t seem like they were getting any better. So I decided to start treating these conditions myself.” Dr. Zaidan hired Debbie Henry, MSN, NP-C, to create a program to treat IC/PBS and expanded her role to do initial bladder consults as well as manage the practice’s endometriosis patients. With the addition of Henry, Zaidan was able to expand his services and offer women an alternative to traditional urological care.
Debbie Henry, MSN, NP-C, nurse practitioner of Women’s Excellence in Bladder Control stated, “I am very proud of what Dr. Zaidan and I have created. We have a very successful IC/PBS treatment program here now. We also have a pelvic floor physical therapist because much of the time urinary issues in women are caused by pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.” Dr. Zaidan will be on hand at Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant in Troy, Michigan to share his insights and experiences on urinary incontinence in women with the Metro Chapter of the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners (MICNP).
The MICNP is a professional organization of nurse practitioners (NPs) in the Southeastern Michigan region who treat patients in all areas of practice. Dr. Zaidan employs 4 NPs and 3 nurse midwives and is quite aware of the impact advanced practice nurses have on patient outcomes. He concluded, “My nurse practitioners are great. They are really good at what they do and I depend on them a lot. It is my intention to reach out to other NPs in the area and let them know what we are doing over at Women’s Excellence. We are making a difference in patient lives”.
