This technology is the wave of the future, and I'm excited about being on the forefront of its introduction to the spine surgery community in San Antonio
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) February 26, 2013
Mazor Robotics Ltd., a developer of innovative spine surgery robots and complementary products, has installed its fifth Renaissance Robotic surgical system in the state of Texas, at San Antonio’s Alamo Neurosurgical Institute (ANI). This is the 20th U.S. installation in 2012. The Renaissance Robot will be used by ANI’s Executive Director, Dr. Michael Leonard.
Dr. Michael Leonard, Executive Director of the Alamo Neurosurgical Institute, is a board-certified, San Antonio neurosurgeon who is fellowship trained in spine surgery. Utilizing the latest minimally invasive technologies to treat the full spectrum of neurosurgical disorders, Dr. Leonard treats the artificial disc, kyphoplasty for osteoporotic bone fractures, and computer assisted guidance for resection of brain tumors. He is the first and only surgeon to provide Renaissance Robotic spine surgery in San Antonio and surrounding areas.
“I'm thrilled to be working with Mazor and honored to be the first neurosurgeon in San Antonio to leverage this technology,” said Leonard. “As a neurosurgeon, I truly appreciate the benefits of an innovative technology that allows me to perform surgery with more precision, accuracy and less risk. This technology is the wave of the future, and I'm excited about being on the forefront of its introduction to the spine surgery community in San Antonio.”
Renaissance is transforming spine surgery from freehand operations to highly accurate, state-of-the-art procedures, with less radiation – even for minimally invasive surgery, scoliosis, and other complex spinal deformity cases. Robotic surgery also decreases neurological risk and increases patient recovery time. It is the only robotic technology for spine surgery available in the marketplace.
