Specialist eye hospital group, Optegra, has recruited two new ophthalmic consultant surgeons.

At an increasingly busy time, with high demand for ClarivuTM permanent lens replacement, laser and cataract operations, as well as recently launching two new AMD treatments, Optegra has further enhanced and strengthened its ophthalmic services with the appointment of two esteemed consultant ophthalmic surgeons; Mr D Kumudhan to Optegra Birmingham Eye Hospital, and Mr Fayyaz Musa to Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital.

Optegra Birmingham Eye Hospital

Mr Kumudhan brings 18 years’ experience together with valuable expertise in cataract surgery, ocular inflammatory diseases (uveitis) and retinal diseases (including macular).

It is his particular skill and knowledge in vitreoretinal surgery – and more specifically small incision sutureless vitrectomy surgery – that strengthens the hospital’s offering. The introduction of the new technology, which has been proven in other Optegra hospitals to dramatically improve and even eliminate floaters for example, will greatly benefit patients with increased access to the very best medical treatments.

Stacey Owens, Hospital Manager at Optegra Birmingham Eye Hospital, comments: “Mr Kumudhan is a respected consultant ophthalmic surgeon and a welcome addition to our team of expert ophthalmic surgeons here at Optegra Birmingham Eye Hospital. His particular expertise and knowledge in the relatively new technique of sutureless vitrectomy surgery is of huge benefit to both our team and our patients.”

Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital

In addition, Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital welcomes new ophthalmic consultant Mr Fayyaz Musa, an expert in Clarivu, Cataract, Glaucoma and corneal procedures such as selective corneal transplantation (DMEK).

Mr Musa says: “Ophthalmology has been a passion of mine for over a decade. I feel privileged to work in a branch of medicine that has constantly innovated and evolved and now has an array of successful life-changing treatment options for patients.”

Rob Morris, Medical Director at Optegra, said: “Optegra’s business is going from strength to strength, with new technologies launching, expansions into Europe, and high demand for our services across our six UK hospitals. So we are delighted to welcome two new consultants, and their wealth of experience, and look forward to working with them.”
