Daily Grommet, an online shopping site and product launch platform for innovative and undiscovered products, is working with MIT graduates to feature the Gotham Defender, a theft-free bike light that is also water proof.
Bike lights are crucial for safe cycling, so drivers can see bicyclists and cyclists can see their darkened surroundings. The trouble is, many bikers have their lights stolen or forget their lights at home. After a friend was hit by a car while biking without a light (it had been stolen), Slava Menn and Brad Geswein set out to solve the problem.
The two MIT grads devised a bike light that’s durable enough to stay mounted on the handlebars through all kinds of weather, and secure enough to thwart would-be thieves. Their theft-resistant invention, called the Gotham Defender, can only be attached and detached with a special screwdriver that comes with the light, so a thief with an ordinary screwdriver is going to get nowhere. The Defender is made of aluminum, it’s designed to handle being submerged in a foot of water, and it runs on three AA batteries that power six bright LEDs (steady or flashing mode).
Cyclists need lighting they can depend on, and the Defender is there when it’s needed -- through rain, sleet and darkened skies.
About Daily Grommet
Daily Grommet is a highly curated online marketplace and launch platform for products of great utility, style or invention that haven’t hit the big-time yet. Daily Grommet seeks out these unique products, carefully tests them, and produces a video review of each one telling the story behind its creation. Daily Grommet is rooted in the philosophy of Citizen Commerce whereby regular people form the commerce experience by suggesting products that reflect their values and interests. Citizen Commerce turns the typical top down retailer approach sideways, encourages global product innovation from small producers, and satisfies the consumer’s need to know the stories behind and origins of favorite products. The company was also just named one of the hottest sites of 2013 by Internet Retailer. For more information, visit http://www.DailyGrommet.com.
