As the supporting video will show, an increasing number of dog owners are now teaching their dog to drive – and with some remarkable results. One pioneering insurance broker car2cover.co.uk has already recognized the opportunity and is developing a product all dog owners will want to consider.
Spokesman for the company, Elaine ‘Scottie’ said “Our existing range of Gap Insurances ‘lead’ the market and provide cover for all drivers named on the motor insurance policy but at present the named drivers must be human. In view of the progress people are clearly making to teach their dog to drive, our new policies will provide cover specifically for all breed of dogs. The product will be launched at the ‘tail’ end of May and will be known as ‘Yap Insurance’.”
Some may think car2cover are ‘barking’ mad to enter into an unchartered market but Scott is adamant, “to be ‘fur’ we wouldn’t consider entering a market if the chances of success were ‘paw’. We are working hard to make sure our premium costs are down to the ‘bone’ as that will certainly help us ‘claw’ our way into this brand new market.”
Driving dogs could signal a downturn in minicab and public transport business as owners will undoubtedly use their own car and canine chauffer for the routine pub, restaurant and shopping trip pick ups.
Scott said “some dogs are working dogs anyway so collecting their owner from a pub would be the ideal use of a family pet - and of course they wouldn’t need to worry about having their ‘collar’ felt."
