Kids in a New Groove changes the lives of youth in foster care through music mentorship

AUSTIN, TX – Austin Bazaar Music is teaming up with Kids in a New Groove (KING) for Amplify Austin, the city’s first 24 hour citywide day of giving. Amplify Austin – Crank up the Giving, will occur during a 24 hour period: 7:00 pm, March 4, 2013 - 7:00 pm, March 5, 2013, with a goal of raising $1 million for Central Texas nonprofits in one day. Austin Bazaar Music, a worldwide provider of musical instruments based in Austin, is a big supporter of Kids in a New Groove, a central Texas non-profit that provides free music mentorship and instruments to kids in the Texas foster care system. Kids in a New Groove is one of the participating charities for this unique day of giving event.

There are approximately 1,600 kids in foster care in Austin and surrounding areas. KING aims to raise $10 for each of these children for a total of $16,000 in one day. Austin Bazaar Music has met this challenge by pledging that for every $1,000 raised in the 24 hour period, they will donate two brand new guitars for KING students. If these goals are met, an additional 16 children in foster care will receive free music mentorship and 32 will receive brand new instruments this year. KING will also launch a Facebook contest where donors can win a brand new Squier by Fender Acoustic Guitar and Pack with Strap, Gig Bag, and Tuner donated by Austin Bazaar Music by making any donation in the 24 hour period through KING’s Facebook page, or through the Amplify Austin/Kids in a New Groove link at in the 24 hour period. Lucky donors might also be surprised throughout the day by music-themed prizes, such as a personal singing visit by one of Austin’s well-known musicians!

ABOUT KIDS IN A NEW GROOVE– Kids in a New Groove is a program providing free, one-on-one music mentorship to children in the Texas foster care system. They offer weekly meetings with mentors who provide lessons in areas such as voice, guitar, piano, and drums, which the children choose from. Along with mentor guidance and music lessons, the children also have an opportunity to receive a brand new instrument, which they can earn from meeting program goals. The program’s mission is to build solid foundations for youth in foster care so they can age out of care with the tools for success.
