Creation of Disability Research and Dissemination Center

American Association for Health and Disability (AAHD) very proudly announces its alliance with University of South Carolina (USC) and State University of New York Upstate Center (SUNY) to create the Disability Research and Dissemination Center (DRDC). This coordinating center was established through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. The center, whose administrative home is University of South Carolina, was launched in February 2012.

DRDC is designed to identify and fund the best research in the field of birth defects, disabilities, human development and blood disorders; foster training of health and public health professionals through fellowships; and use progressive mechanisms to disseminate knowledge. DRDC plans to support a broad complement of scientists throughout the US who are pursuing fellowships and research projects in the areas of birth defects, disability, health, and prevention.

AAHD is the only national organization dedicated to integrating public health and disability into the overall public health agenda. AAHD’s role with DRDC is to manage the Dissemination Core. Dissemination will promote training and research opportunities, and circulate new knowledge and information through web and other multiple media approaches. AAHD will be responsible for establishing and maintaining DRDC’s web and social media strategy, maintaining and updating stakeholder’s network through a communication plan and convening meetings of stakeholders to discuss/address research, policy, and programmatic issues. The overall aim is to ensure information reaches the audience.
