Guardian Real Estate Services (Guardian) has long been concerned about social issues. As one of the country’s largest affordable housing developers, the company comes in daily contact with the challenges faced by individuals and families confronting unequal treatment due to their income and/or ethnic status.
“We know that committing to Social Equity and Diversity is the right thing to do for our society. We also know research shows organizations that actively pursue responsible efforts to these goals are organizations that become stronger, both internally, and in their industry. This ‘double bottom line’ emphasis is important to our company,” says Tom Brenneke, President
The commitment reflects a policy intended to explore all avenues that promise to lead to increasing the diversity of the Guardian workforce (24% now self‐identify as ethnic minorities, 47% are female, and 60% of Executive Management Team are female) and of its supply chain by actively recruiting certified minority firms as well as asking vendors to extend opportunities to certified minority firms.
Priority on Social Equity is reflected in increased awareness of the issue. This has awakened Guardian’s Executive Management Team to the need to reach farther and faster in expanding the company’s initiatives to become a strong contributor to improved social equity company‐wide.
