Yumi Media offers congratulations to Fuaja Singh after his completion of his final marathon. Yumi Media representative and Quorn lover, Justin Maas issues a comment, saying Singh is an inspiration to all vegetarians.
According to NBC Sports: Off the Bench, Fauja Singh is the oldest runner to ever complete a full marathon. Now, the 102-year-old will “hang up his competitive running shoes for good” and will “run for fun.”
Singh, the Indian-born runner nicknamed 'The Turbaned Torpedo,' ran in the 10k division of the Hong Kong Marathon, and completed the 6.25-mile race in one hour and 32 minutes.
The article reports that Singh began running at age 89 to help manage his grief after both his wife and son died. Singh “unofficially became the oldest man to run a full marathon when he ran in Toronto in 2011at the age of 100. But, he is not recognized by the Guinness Book of the World Records because he doesn’t have a birth certificate.”
“I will remember this day. I will miss it,” Singh was noted as saying minutes after crossing the finish line.
Singh completed nine full marathons after the age of 89, says the article.
“It is truly amazing to see the potential humans can aspire to,” comments Yumi Media representative Justin Maas. “You see athletes that are juicing or pumping themselves full of supplements or eating pound after pound of chicken meat to gain incredible results from their athletic achievements only to be amazed by a little old man from India that eats mostly vegetables. It is a true testament to the power of training hard and eating healthy food. I'm a vegetarian (and die-hard Quorn fan) and it's nice to be reminded that a simple, vegetable-based lifestyle can produce fantastic results without any gimmicks. Congratulations, Singh. You inspire us all.”
