BTL Aesthetics today announced the introduction of Exilis ELITE™, its next stage device for reducing wrinkles and treating skin laxity of the face and body. The Exilis ELITE, which was re-engineered to meet patient demand for better, faster and safer face and body rejuvenation in fewer treatment sessions, will debut at the 71st annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology on March 2-4, 2013, at Booth #885 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Florida.
Optimizing the dynamic monopolar radio frequency (RF) technology of the original Exilis system, the new ELITE platform further hones the delivery of thermal energy for measurable results after only two to three treatments. This outstanding level of clinical efficacy is achieved by delivering maximum power and speed of high frequency radio waves using BTL’s proprietary Energy Flow Control™ and Impedance Intelligence™ breakthroughs. These features provide uniform and precise distribution of heat to the entire treatment area while ELITE’s advanced cooling allows for layering of RF energy at various depths.
A multi-center clinical study to validate a two-treatment protocol by leading cosmetic dermatologic and plastic surgeons will mark the commercial rollout of the Elite Family. At each of the three test sites, 12 to 15 patients with wrinkles and skin laxity in the mid to lower face will be treated two times at a three to four week interval.
“With the new Exilis ELITE system, BTL Aesthetics takes its original RF device to the next level with better design, richer interface, increased safety, and greater clinical effectiveness,” said Robert Weiss, MD, associate professor of dermatology, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and director of the Maryland Laser, Skin and Vein Institute in Hunt Valley, MD. “We fully expect that our upcoming patient study will document that this powerful device can produce noticeable cosmetic improvements in as few as two 30 to 40 minute procedures.”
At the core of the advanced ELITE Skin Treatment Platform is the newly re-engineered Energy Flow Control (EFC) system that enables uniform heating of the targeted tissue to further increase patient safety and assure predictable results. Another functional enhancement embedded in the ELITE systems is Impedance Intelligence, a breakthrough in hardware/software communication between changes in the skin and the delivery of thermal energy, commonly known as bio-electric skin effects.
With non-invasive RF treatment, changes in skin impedance occur in each local area being treated. For example, soft tissue areas, such as the mid-face, typically have lower impedance than bony areas, like the forehead or jaw line. The specially designed ELITE applicator automatically monitors impedance multiple times every second and turns off the power, if needed. Other less-refined RF devices continue pushing high energy power regardless of the impedance, which can lead to complications such as overheating and blistering.
“We are pleased to provide aesthetic physicians and their patients a comprehensive suite of high performance devices which offer a results-driven anti-aging solution to transform appearances from head to toe,” said Marcel Besse, President of BTL Aesthetics. “Like our initial Exilis, the ELITE system is affordable, versatile and does not require consumables or disposables, making expensive treatment tips and key cards obsolete.”
