In celebration of Women’s History Month, Women In Defense (WID) is pleased to announce that it will recognize the brave women who serve our country through the military, government, and industry. As part of its efforts to honor women in defense, WID will present the Service to the Flag Award to one of these distinguished women, the Honorable Carolyn H. Becraft.

As a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), Ms. Becraft worked to expand continuing learning opportunities for military personnel and Department of Navy civilians, and collaborated with the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Labor to address sensitive issues for military veterans. For her work, she was awarded the Department of Defense Distinguished Public Service Medal. Ms. Becraft was also the recipient of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Outstanding Achievement Award in 1998 and the Quality of Life Award of the National Military Family Association in 1997.

In addition to Ms. Becraft, this inaugural celebration will also feature other distinguished women in defense, including BG Wilma L. Vaught, USAF (Ret), President of the Board of Directors of the Women In Military Service Memorial and an outspoken advocate for women in military service. Ms. Tricia Ward, an executive with Booz Allen Hamilton, retired Senior Chief with the U.S. Navy, and current WID President, will provide comments on the important role women have played in our nation’s defense throughout history.

This intimate event will start at 10:00 am and will include tours of the memorial, the award presentation, and a networking bunch reception to follow. Pre-registration is now open and is encouraged, but registrations will also be taken onsite.
