This was naturally a good fit for us since customers occasionally have items they no longer want or need but don’t want to deal with discarding them or taking them to a donation center elsewhere.

Irvine, California (PRWEB) February 26, 2013

It takes one to know one. When we were kids we used that expression as a form of criticism. But for Brian Caster and A-1 Self Storage, having already been active in supporting those less fortunate just made it even easier to relate to what Charity Storage is all about. And that is why it was such an easy decision for A-1 to become a Founding Sponsor for Charity Storage.

“We became involved with Charity Storage through our affiliation with Storage Treasures.” said Brian Caster, President and CEO of A-1 Self Storage. “Lance Watkins, who is also the Founder of Storage Treasures, contacted me about his concept of having charitable units being sold at auction to benefit local and national charities. This was naturally a good fit for us since customers occasionally have items they no longer want or need but don’t want to deal with discarding them or taking them to a donation center elsewhere.”

“In addition, A-1 Self Storage is very involved with giving back to local communities and charities through our charitable organization, Serving Hands International,” added Caster. “It’s great to be able to provide a convenient service to our customers and help those less fortunate at the same time through our auction proceeds. We’re very proud to be involved with Charity Storage and would encourage other self storage operators to get onboard.”

Charity Storage was created when Watkins and Barry Hoeven saw the popularity of self storage auctions grow and realized that the self storage industry could give back to society through special auctions whose proceeds go to local and national charities. The net proceeds from the sale of each unit at a Charity Storage auction are split three ways -- the Self Storage Association Foundation (which provides scholarships to students who are related to self storage professionals or work at self storage facilities) receives 10 percent, Kure It Cancer Research receives 30 percent, and the individual facility hosting the auction chooses a local or national charity to receive the remaining 60 percent.

For Watkins the “takes one to know one” expression rings true when it comes to A-1 Self Storage and Charity Storage. “Brian is one of the truly dedicated humanitarians in our industry,” Watkins said. “He understood what we are trying to accomplish with Charity Storage right off the bat. We are so fortunate to have A-1 as a Founding Sponsor and feel sure that their dedication to good causes will extend to helping raise money for charities through our organization, too.”
