Fremont Micro Devices USA Inc announced the FT838 Family of primary side CC/CV controller for LED lighting products and switching mode power supply designs. The first two members of the Family include the FT838R and FT838RNA.
“The FT838 Family adds to the growing portfolio of Fremont Micro Devices Power Management solutions. It is targeted at adapter/charger designs for mobile phones, portable apparatus, auxiliary power supplies and LED lighting products,” said, Jim Panfil, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Fremont Micro Devices USA. “The FT838 facilitates the design of AC/DC LED driver applications. The LED current can be accurately regulated by sensing the primary side information with a few external components without the need for an opto-coupler and TL431. The integrated under Voltage Lockout, Leading Edge Banking and built-in cable compensation functions offer the user a high efficiency and low cost solution for LED lighting products like bulbs and spotlights and AC/DC power applications,” he added.
The FT838RNA has an integrated bipolar junction transistor (NPN) which enables LED Driver Designs with a higher than 22uA stand by current. Operating current of the FT838R is as low as 500uA. The low operating current reduces the Vcc hold up capacitance requirement. The extremely low start-up and operating current reduces power consumption which improves system reliability.
The FT838R in a SOT23-5 package has a list price of $0.08 for volume orders of 10ku and the FT838RNA in a SOP-8 package has a list price of $0.10 for volume orders of 10ku.
