Briona’s main features of real-time reconstruction, high image quality, flexibility and ease-of-use make it an excellent platform for new feature development and product optimization.
Villanova, PA (PRWEB) March 04, 2013
Real Time Tomography LLC, a leader in medical image processing and reconstruction solutions, announced today an OEM license agreement with im3D S.p.A. Medical Lab, an Italian medical imaging device company, for its Briona 3D image reconstruction software for digital breast tomosynthesis. Im3D will incorporate Briona into its next-generation breast computer-aided detection (CAD) imaging products.
Briona is a 3D image reconstruction software library for digital breast tomosynthesis or 3D mammography. Briona’s unique features are dynamic, on-demand image reconstruction with higher image quality and spatial resolution compared to conventional reconstruction methods for tomosynthesis. Briona is offered as an OEM product to manufacturers of medical imaging systems. In addition to superior image quality, its plug-and-play design helps manufacturers reduce their development costs and product time-to-market.
“The Briona software’s main features of real-time reconstruction, high image quality, flexibility and ease-of-use make it an excellent platform for new feature development and product optimization”, said Alberto Bert, Ph.D., Head of Research at im3D.
This agreement builds upon an existing and successful research collaboration between Real Time Tomography and im3D. In 2012, im3D conducted a reader study that examined the clinical benefits of Real Time Tomography’s patented Dynamic Reconstruction and Rendering (DRR) technology. Results of this study found that DRR’s enhanced image quality and dynamic features helped to improve clinician confidence and diagnostic accuracy when compared to conventional reconstruction and review methods currently used in tomosynthesis. The Briona software leverages the DRR technology.
“We are extremely pleased that im3D has selected our Briona software for their CAD product development”, said Susan Ng, CEO of Real Time Tomography. “We look forward to our continued collaboration and to working with im3D in the development of their future imaging products.”
