Keri Lynn Ford’s IgniteGirls gathered in Atlanta to bring online personal training to an in-your-face, three dimensional level

I wanted us all to connect in-person, away from the world of Facebook, emails and texts. I was able to give them a hug, share a laugh and push them a little further during workouts.

Keri Lynn Ford, fitness personality, celebrity trainer/coach, international cover model, and creator of online fitness community, IgniteGirls, recently held the first IgniteGirls Fitness Weekend (IGFW) in Johns Creek, Ga.. Women trekked from all over the United States, from Washington D.C. all the way to California to “Spark their Inner Athlete.” Throughout the getaway, Ford led tough workouts and sessions on nutrition and healthy cooking, while providing a forum for group bonding, inspiration and emotional support – all elements in a successful “healthy life” program.

The IGFW was held at The Forum Athletic Club, owned by two former NFL players: Dan Owens (formerly on the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons) and Roman Fortin (formerly on the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers). As such, workouts were structured in a sports conditioning-style, including:

  • Turf Workouts: participants used the large, turfed space to flip tractor tires, push weighted sleighs and run cone drills, in addition to plenty of running, sprinting and high intensity interval training.
  • Weight Lifting Circuit Routines: like pros, the girls cycled four times through 10 stations, each station one minute long. Exercises included Romanian dead lifts, jump squat ladders, box jumps, weighted walking lunges, squats, burpees. (A full list of exercises can be found on kerilynnford.com/news/).

The nutrition component featured cooking demonstration with professional sous chef from the Culinary Institute of the Arts in Hyde Park, Tesia Bunton. Supplemental offerings included: Q&As, one-on-one body consultations, raffles and prizes from product sponsors. The group welcomed guest speakers, including International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) certified trainer, Casey Shipp, Registered Dietitian, Dana Casendino, and Ford herself.

Philadelphia IgniteGirl, Noelle Andrews, was eager to finally meet fellow IgniteGirls. "I really enjoyed working out and learning the proper form for exercises,” Andrews said. “It’s easy to make mistakes and risk injury, but I am now confident of proper form and feel like a pro when I hit the gym. I gained a lot from this weekend—including sore muscles!”

As for the head trainer? Ford appreciated the opportunity to meet her online clients face to face. “The weekend went exactly as I had envisioned it,” Ford said. “I wanted to bring everyone together in a different way. I wanted us all to connect in-person, away from the world of Facebook, emails and texts. I was able to give them a hug, share a laugh and push them a little further during workouts. I look forward to future IgniteGirls Fitness Weekends and I know they will be as successful as this one was.”
