“At USAA Bank, we’re committed to maintaining a free checking option for our members; however, we recognize a growing need and desire among our members for advanced security protections,” said Andy Collins, vice president of checking for USAA Bank.

San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) March 01, 2013

USAA Bank today announced Secure Checking Plus, a new checking account option providing additional identity theft and debit card price protection, designed for the military and their families. The new account helps protect USAA members beyond their USAA checking accounts with daily credit monitoring, 24/7 internet monitoring against unauthorized use of the member’s Social Security and credit card numbers, lost wallet assistance and $1 million in identity theft insurance.* The Secure Checking Plus account will be available to members for a competitive price of $9.95 per month, which is less than the $15 - $20 this type of protection can cost if purchased individually, and also less than some banks charge for a basic checking account.

“According to Javelin Strategy & Research, nearly 12 million Americans were victims of identity theft in 2012,” said Andy Collins, vice president of checking for USAA Bank. “That, coupled with the threat of identity theft and cyber crimes targeting the military community, is why it is vital to provide more options to help protect our members’ personal and financial information. Members can now choose to keep their existing free USAA checking account, with many built-in security features, or upgrade to USAA Secure Checking Plus for an additional charge for extra peace of mind.”

USAA Bank will continue to offer its free checking account, now named USAA Secure Checking. It includes robust security features, such as fraud alerts and cyber code tokens for enhanced security logon, with no minimum balance requirements.

“At USAA Bank, we’re committed to maintaining a free checking option for our members; however, we recognize a growing need and desire among our members for advanced security protections,” said Collins. “We’re proud to offer our members a higher level of protection with USAA Secure Checking Plus.”

In addition to the identity theft and fraud protections, USAA Secure Checking Plus also provides enhanced debit card benefits through World®Debit MasterCard®, such as an extended warranty which doubles the warranty time period and price protection which covers the difference if you find the same item at a lower price on purchases made with the World®Debit MasterCard.
